History

When the credit union was formed in 1953 by a group of pastors, it was simply a means of pooling their resources to provide loans they wouldn’t otherwise have been able to obtain. Years later, Commonroots Federal Credit Union is still providing loans and so much more.

Our modern credit union offers online banking, mobile banking, IRAs, online bill pay, electronic statements, and many other services. Not only does the credit union serve the financial needs of United Methodist clergy, our services are available to all United Methodists and their family members, UM churches, and UM organizations throughout the Western Pennsylvania Conference.

Our goal is and always has been to help each and every one of our members to achieve their financial goals and be good stewards of their resources. The founding fathers of our credit union could not have predicted the important role the organization would play in the lives of so many individuals, families, pastors, churches, and organizations, but we’re confident they would be thrilled to witness the stewardship in action, financial counseling, compassionate service and financial ministry that are standard operating procedures for CRFCU today.
